In safe and efficient manner the Electrical Technician @ the Durham York Energy Center will assess and make repairs, calibration, modify & install as needed to the Facilities 13,800 , 600, 240 & 110 volt systems and equipment and the Continuous Emission Monitoring systems (CEMs) systems as well all flow, pressure, temperature, level Instrumentation and data acquisition and historian devises. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: • Maintain a safe and clean work area at all times & follow all Covanta Energy Corporation safety policies. • The inspection and maintenance work required on the Facilities 13,800, 600, 240 & 110 volt systems, distribution, controls and equipment associated the Durham York Energy from Waste Facility. • Trouble shoot, assess, inspect and adjust, and make repairs, calibration, modify & install as needed to the Facilities VFD’S, Continuous Emission Monitoring systems (CEMs) systems as well all flow, pressure, temperature, level Instrumentation and data acquisition and historian devises. This includes but not limited to Transmitter flow devise level controls temperature measurement, and flue analysis equipment. The candidate must have experience in maintain PLCs and DSC systems to ensure facility safety and reliability. • Perform preventative maintenance tasks including routine maintenance of High Voltage equipment’s, calibration thermography & ultrasonic testing, and will actively participate in the periodic teardown and internal inspection of major equipment and sub components. • Must have strong computing skill in MS Word, Excel, • Must be able to maintain excellent records and documentation control • Read an interrupt measuring tools, graphs technical manuals. • Must be able to reference provincial & federal codes and environmental permits and translate them to actionable items. • Must be able to interface effectively with the Client, Public, and source testing and Regulatory agency officers.
The position of Electrical Technician requires at least five years’ experience in the repair and maintenance of Electrical and Instrumentation systems and equipment. A high school education and/or formal technical or apprentice training is required. The candidate will have an Ontario Industrial Electrical License/certification (442A), Instrumentation and Control Technicial (447A) and Education training and experience in process automation and control. As well a strong background in CEMs is a desired attribute for this position. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general technical procedures, or drawings .Ability to write comprehensive logs, reports, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from peer group or supervision. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add subtract multiply dived as well a use of algebra and geometry is part of this role. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee periodically enters and inspects various plant areas with rotating machinery; is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; confined spaces, fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; . Risk of electrical shock; and vibration. Must be able to work both indoors and outdoors. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The Insturmentation/Electrical Technician works in a climate controlled environment as well as with some outside weather conditions; extreme heat as a factor The noise level in the control room will be below 85db however the work environment in operating areas in the Facility will require hearing protection. Must be able to work standing, sitting, squatting, laying down and at heights. Must be able to lift 22.7 Kgs.
