The Production Enhancement division encompasses all of Halliburton’s Hydraulic Fracturing and Wellbore Stimulation efforts. Halliburton pioneered hydraulic fracturing technology and revolutionized the oil and gas industry when we executed the first hydraulic fracturing procedure in 1947. Since then, we have remained the industry leader in providing fracturing and stimulation services all over the world. The Applied Sciences R&D team is where it all starts. From technology and process improvement to new product development, this team is the heart of Halliburton’s largest Product Service Line and the very foundation of Halliburton’s position as the industry leader and principal innovator in well stimulation products and services.


As a Data Scientist on the Applied Sciences R&D team, you will be working with a diverse global team of data scientists, data engineers, chemists, engineers, and business leaders addressing some of the most challenging problems in Oil and Gas. We are looking for creative, dynamic, passionate, and driven individuals who have the ability to effectively communicate and influence the business through data-driven decisions and investments. This is a high visibility position and the candidate is expected to frequently interact with upper management to formulate and steer digital strategy.  


As a Data Scientist, you will:

  • Analyze complex structured and unstructured data, recognize patterns and trends, engineer new features, and build predictive and prescriptive models leading to business value.
  • Apply advanced analytics skills to turn data into competitive advantage and make recommendations for data-driven business decisions.
  • Design and implement data quality remediation solutions and solve related issues using large and complex enterprise data models and large volumes of data.
  • Promote efficiency by automation of manual auditing processes.
  • Coach and mentor junior data scientists to deliver higher quality modeling solutions through production software platforms.


Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of direct experience
  • Experience writing complex stored procedure and ad-hoc queries
  • Strong knowledge of at least one of the following technologies: SQL, Microsoft SQL Server
  • Expertise in mining complex data (including structure and unstructured), identifying patterns, feature engineering, and building regression and classification models
  • At least two years of experience applying advanced analytic methods in one of these programming tools: R, Matlab, Python
  • Experience with data visualization software applications or programming modules
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required with the ability to present complex and sensitive issues to all levels of senior management.


Desired Qualifications:

  • M.S. or PhD in Engineering, Operations Research, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Finance or related discipline
  • Expertise in Machine Learning algorithms (including but not limited to regularized regression, decision trees, random forest, gradient boosting, neural networks), cross validation, hyper-parameter selection, feature engineering, times series analysis, data wrangling, probability and stochastic processes, mathematical optimization
  • Proven expertise in descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics
  • Experience working with Hadoop, parallel programming, map-reduce framework in Spark, and working with other big data tools such as hive, phoenix
  • Experience in time-series analysis, pattern recognition, or natural language processing
  • Experience working in an agile environment, rapid prototyping using design thinking, and model deployment in production
