Description

The position is with an R&D Engineering team developing and implementing models to a Geomechanics simulator. The ideal candidate must demonstrate creativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving complex engineering problems during the development and application of new and improved products, processes, and value proposition schemes. May develop and apply advanced Geomechanics technologies in the areas of wellbore stability, predrill pore pressure/fracture gradient analysis, rock mechanics, fracture mechanics and wellbore strengthening. May perform numerical modeling, wellbore log analysis, model development on complex projects utilizing existing commercial software and may develop new modeling software. May design and perform complex specialized tests and simulations including utilization of modeling apparatus and data acquisition systems. May design rock mechanics laboratory experiments and integrate the acquired data within the modelling tools. May lead the development and testing of software products by providing engineering functions and may provide field support for existing software products. Prepares detailed project plans and is accountable for performance of projects according to the provided plan. Resolves technical/operational questions and/or negotiates with representatives of other organizations and may be considered a subject matter expert in a technical field. Prepares technical training materials and makes technical presentations as called upon to facilitate technology transfer. Provides technical guidance to technicians, engineers, or chemists and is consulted for engineering interpretations and advice. Demonstrates innovation by contributing inventions, patents, or new designs/techniques which are regarded as advances in the field. Participates in and contributes to professional societies through technical papers, officer positions, committee memberships, etc.

 

Requirements

  • Minimum educational requirement of a doctoral degree and 3 years’ experience or a master’s degree and 5 or more years’ related experience or a bachelor’s degree and 7 or more years’ related experience.
  • Incumbents at this level will normally be certified as a Licensed/Chartered Professional Engineer.
  • High proficiency in Wellbore Stability and Wellbore Strengthening theories and techniques. 
  • Experience with Rock Mechanics, Solid Mechanics, Mechanical Earth Modeling, 1D Pore Pressure Analysis, 1D Fracture Gradient Analysis and Interpretation of Wellbore Logs, preferably applied to Drilling Operations.
  • Basic knowledge of Geology and Rock Lithology Type is required. 
  • Familiarity with Water-based and Oil-based Drilling Fluid Systems and their related chemistry.
  • Understanding of Sanding Control and Leak-off Test Data Analysis is also preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience interacting with external vendors is a plus.
