Telemetry Mechanical Lead

Sperry Drilling System is looking for an exceptional and innovative  mechanical engineer with expertise in the area of mud pulse Telemetry for drilling applications. This engineer must be an expert in developing robust and cost-effective solutions for mechanical packaging of Telemetry systems and associated electronics.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Be the subject matter expert in mechanical design of Telemetry tools and provide expertise and technical guidance to different project/product teams.
  • Advance the state-of-art in packaging techniques for electro-mechanical systems and develop new and unique packaging methods to improve mechanical robustness while maintaining system performance.
  • Perform proof-of-concept studies, which may include hardware development and testing to prove viability of new electromechanical systems prior to implementation in product.
  • Develop standards, guidelines and best practices to drive consistency in electromechanical design and electronics packaging.
  • Mentor and coach the different project teams in development of Telemetry systems.
  • Be a key member or leader for special projects to address critical field failures and drive implementation of corrective actions to eliminate the failure.

Education/Experience/Expertise:

  • Bachelors’ degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 5-10 years’ experience in working on various Telemetry technologies including mud pulse systems.
  • Very good understanding of challenges and trade-offs with electro-mechanical packaging of sensors, actuation and valve systems for telemetry application.
  • Proven track record of successfully implementing telemetry solutions for drilling application.
  • Experience with product development, manufacturing and process development and improvement.
  • Experience with design and development of lab scale testing of electromechanical systems.
  • Experience with performing field failure analysis to determine root cause of failure and implementing corrective solutions.
  • Experience with development and testing of power generation systems is a plus.
  • Familiarity with signal processing techniques is a plus.

    Soft Skills:

  • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Must be a proactive, self-driven, results-oriented.
