Location: Abingdon, OXF, GB, OX14 4RW

We are looking for the right people — people who want to innovate, achieve, grow and lead. We attract and retain the best talent by investing in our employees and empowering them to develop themselves and their careers. Experience the challenges, rewards and opportunity of working for one of the world’s largest providers of products and services to the global energy industry.

Landmark’s rich history of innovation began more than 30 years ago when the company’s founders changed exploration and production with the first interactive 3D seismic interpretation workstation. Landmark has continued to lead, invest in, evolve and advance our technologies. Milestone after milestone, the industry has hailed Landmark for its scientific leadership.

Who we’re looking for?

We have two intern projects which aim to solve petroleum geoscience challenges based in our Abingdon office in Oxfordshire. We are therefore seeking to recruit 4 interns; 2 with geoscience backgrounds and 2 with experience in applied data science.

We are looking for innovative self-starters with the ability to effectively express ideas to team members, project stakeholders and management. Candidates MUST be registered in a PhD programme with a completion date after end of August 2018.

Specifically we are seeking candidates who have experience in the following research areas:

1. Geoscience:

The 2 geoscience interns will have an advanced understanding of at least one of the following disciplines:

  • Earth systems science (especially paleoclimate and source to sink relationships)
  • Sequence stratigraphy or biostratigraphy (specifically the application of microfossils in paleoenvironmental determination).

Successful candidates will have an understanding of the importance, application and impact of data science (especially machine learning and the utilization of big data) in resolving geological problems.

2. Applied Data Science:

The 2 interns with applied data science backgrounds will need to show the ability to understand complex geological concepts, appreciate their significance, and ultimately represent the concepts in software code, through the modification of existing code or development of new code.

The successful candidates will have an understanding of machine learning applications within data science, ranging from the application of neural networks to more advanced processes. Knowledge of geoscience, specifically stratigraphy, would be beneficial.

We welcome applications from petroleum engineers or geoscientists who have a proven track record in applying data science techniques to geological problems.

What’s in it for you?

The chosen candidates will work within multi-disciplinary teams, alongside subject matter experts, to complete projects that have been hand-selected by Landmark Leadership. These projects have a high level of visibility within the organization and we anticipate that they will result in patents, publications or conference presentations.

The internships will run concurrently over the summer of 2018 (June-August), will be of 8-12 weeks duration and be funded by Landmark. Accommodation in Abingdon can be supported.

Entry Requirements:

Candidates MUST currently be eligible to work in the UK.

Candidates MUST be registered in a PhD programme with a completion date after end of August 2018.

Candidates MUST be available to begin work from 4th June 2018.

Please highlight your area of interest in a cover letter accompanying your CV.
