Staff Grid Operations Engineer – Distribution (R1-19-0211)

 

POSITION PURPOSE

 

Support PGE’s Control Center Distribution Operations and tools used for controlling, monitoring and operating PGE’s distribution grid such as OMS and DMS.

Ensure accuracy of electrical system model in OMS/DMS. Validate changes to the model and data resulting from construction and maintenance activities coming in through GIS, daily, prior to promoting model to operations. Work with Distribution Engineering and control center operations to ensure temporary and permanent changes to topology/connectivity is reflected in the OMS accurately. Provide support for control center distribution operations when OMS/DMS application or model issues are reported. Work with PGE IT to ensure automated process for model extraction from GIS and other OMS interfaces, such as AMI, Work management system, etc. are functional and is meeting operational requirements. Work with GIS team to identify and track modeling items that require corrections. Ensure outage/connectivity information is captured correctly for accurate reliability reporting. Support control center during storm restoration efforts.


KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

 

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program or program accredited by an equivalent agency.

  • Typically, eight or more years in engineering, or five or more years in related field with PE license. 

  • Experience in Transmission and Distribution Operations

  • Experience in tools used in Transmission and Distribution Operations (EMS, DMS, OMS)

  • Advanced understanding and experience in working on Outage Management System (OMS) and/or Distribution Management System (DMS) (Oracle NMS preferred)

  • Through understanding of utility outage management process.

  • Through understanding of PGE’s switching and tagging process.

  • Through understanding of PGE’s distribution Switch Order Management.

  • Through understanding of distribution network applications (Switching Study Tool, FLISR, VVO etc.)

  • Knowledge of GIS (Geographic Information System) data structure and interface as used in the OMS/DMS.

  • Experience with T&D Design is preferred.

  • Experience with T&D Construction Practices is preferred.

  • Some experience with Unix/Linux, Oracle database, and some shell scripting/SQL scripting/light C++ programming preferred.

Certifications, Licenses and Training

Professional Engineering (PE) license strongly preferred; may be required based upon role.
