JOB TITLE: Transmission and Substation Construction Project Manager
REQUISITION: KAN00DU
DEPARTMENT: Large Transmission and Substation Construction – F&M Manchester Service Center
LOCATION: Kansas City, MO
Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with additional work hours as needed.
Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Senior Director, Large Transmission and Substation Construction, the candidate has overall responsibility for the management of projects to construct a variety of reliable transmission and substation upgrades in a safe, timely, cost effective and environmentally sound manner. The types of multi-discipline projects will include: building new transmission lines, rebuilding existing transmission lines, building new substations, and modifying existing substations some of which will be complex, multi-million-dollar capital projects with multi-year timeframes. The candidate has responsibility to direct and manage a team of internal and external resources that typically include engineering, vegetation management, procurement, real estate, project controls, administrative, regulatory, legal, etc. to complete the required projects, fostering them from conception and strategic analysis through energization and completion. The candidate will provide for the development and implementation of appropriate project control systems, adherence to scope, schedule, cost, and safety to support the overall project management effort. The candidate will regularly provide formal and informal project communications to numerous internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
Education and Experience:
The Project Manager: A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, or other related fields is highly preferred. This position requires five or more years of project management experience working on projects that are generally in the $5 million range and a demonstrated ability to manage multi-dimensional projects working with multiple vendors and contractors. Individuals with less than five years of dedicated project management experience may be considered if they possess at least seven years of supervisory or managerial experience in an operations environment or seven years of experience in project support capacity.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
The Project Manager must have demonstrated the following leadership skills and abilities:
Working knowledge of OSHA, KDHE, MoDNR or other regulatory type agencies
Ability to handle multiple priorities and manage multi-disciplinary projects of moderate size
Adequate level of knowledge regarding project controls including familiarity with utilizing project schedules, cost tracking systems, and field progress monitoring systems to successfully complete projects utilizing prescribed processes and practices
Ability to create procurement plans and write contract scopes of work for moderate scale material, equipment, and labor procurements utilizing existing contracts and suppliers
Working knowledge of contracting practices and demonstrated ability of holding contractors and others accountable for completed work using contractual means
Ability to communicate project status in summary form to management
Demonstrate the ability to complete moderate scale projects with management oversight
Ability to influence others and set clear expectations
Ability to make decisions with limited information, non-routine or unexpected judgments; apply reason and logic; respond quickly; and process information in an organized, timely, and accurate manner
360 communication skills including strong technical and business writing skills and ability to effectively communicate with all stakeholders internal and external to the organization
Candidate must have the ability to perform the physical requirements of the position and have a history of encouraging and establishing a safe work culture
Working Conditions:
Combined office and construction site working conditions. Requires some in-state and overnight travel. Must have a satisfactory work record including good attendance.
